Josh Coffman’s Top 10 Games of 2025

Josh shares his favorites from the year.

10. Monster Hunter Wilds

This release was Wild

I like Monster Hunter as a franchise and Wilds adds a bit more to their standard formula. Wilds seems fresh and original (to me at least) and continues to build interest for new blood. But beyond that, I have a hard time enjoying it when I either have to solo it or play with a group who have well over 200 hours in. Also, some debilitating bugs plagued it in the beginning making it almost unplayable.

9. Elder Scrolls 4 Remaster

A new shiny turd

Not much to say as it is the same buggy game, just with a new coat of paint. I will say it was nice to revisit, and it did include some nice nods to Skyrim

8. Astrobot’s Playroom

The coolest virtual museum

Having a nephew who loves Astrobot, I figured I’d give his playroom game a try for the first time. As a platformer i loved it. As a collectible hunter game, I enjoyed it even more. It gave a taste of Astrobot and makes me want to grab a copy now.

7. Lost Soul Aside

Those teeth though

China’s Project Hero game, Lost Soul Aside, is a generic hack-and-slash game that makes me appreciate Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden a bit more. It does have some nice sequences and is polished really well. I especially liked that the devs let players keep the equipment as you played New Game + on a higher difficulty. My one glaring issue is forcing me to play the game 3 times just to unlock everything.

6. Dispatch

Who needs Blazer or Visi when you have Mandy

Love how this one came out of nowhere and gave a great take on the superhero genre. Minus the internet getting a bit too “personal” with the love interests, Dispatch brings the humor and the comebacks.

5. Robocop Rogue City

I am Robocop

Robocop was a surprise play for me as I picked it up for free as part of my PS+. But I never would have guessed this IP heavy game would consume so much of my time. The gameplay can be generic at times, but where it shines the best is the IP. From the locations, to the characters, and even the interactions, it truly feels like you are Robocop as you murder suspects and destroy the community in the process.

4. Arc Raiders

Not your daddy’s Arc

It’s For those who know me, looter shooters were a huge part of my go-tos in between my single players and the podcast. And with Escape from Tarkov falling from my good graces, I had a void to fill. Arc Raiders stepped in and took over. Still your generic shooter, but what set it apart for me was the environment and the players as it can be one of the friendliest groups of players.

3. Battlefield 6

Big booms and tons of fun!

After the failed 2042, everyone going into Battlefield 6 were cautious and skeptical. However, it was for not, as Battlefield 6 came back to modern warfare and forced even COD players to join the better FPS. It even took an award for Audio at the game awards.

2. Split Fiction

AI is bad…Game is good

With how quickly AI is trying to take over the world, Split Fiction shows you that it isn’t all rainbows and sunshine as it all seems. Journey across digital worlds as you try to stop an evil corporation from stealing all of your ideas and unleashing it to the world. Needless to say, story alone made this one an early contender for 2025. A much needed coop with tons to do with various different gameplay types as you traverse the various lands.

1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

For those who come after…

Clari Obscur does something that most indie companies dream of doing with their first game. Sandfall Interactive did the impossible and delivered it with style. Taking turn based rpg gameplay, with a hint of despair/mystery, and a dash of magical scenery with bright colors, Expedition 33 becomes a shinning example of what even “AAAA” companies fail to even comprehend. I instantly fell in love with this one and honestly would recommend it to anyone. Plus Sandfall released some DLC for free which is always a plus.
